Julia: So, to the invisible audience, welcome to Sexistential Joy. I’m Julia and I'm interviewing my friend and co-creator of this website Izzy. Say hi Izzy!

Izzy: Hello! Hello friends and audiences of Sexistential Joy.

Julia: So today I'm actually going to be interviewing Izzy about a really cool project that she did. She created an experimental softcore porn. So first, what made you what's to do experimental porn? Because you know, it's a really cool video, I’ve got to say.

Izzy: Thank you so much! So one of my really good friends is in a band and they were like, “Izzy you should make visuals and stuff, and you can make them as sexy as you want.” And I was like hell yeah! At first I was going to make a narrative but that got too complicated. I like the experimental part of it though, I was really into it, and later I was like wait a minute! The first time I saw an experimental, weird porn was at this film festival in Scotland. It was so cool and I was like if I want to make porn I wanted to be a weird kind of cool and experimental and weird

Julia: Sounds like that film festival really triggered the idea of making this in a non-narrative direction. Because as I was watching it it seems to be really focused on the sensation aspect, the visuals of sensation. So tell me about what you have seen far because, I'm going to be honest, this is the first time I've ever seen anything like that.

Izzy: Whoo! First I'm going to give myself a little clap because I'm so happy you just said that.

Julia: Oh it was awesome! It was really cool and really awesome and really different.

Izzy: It was mostly the stuff that I was seeing at film festivals, like the first time I saw a weird experimental type of thing was this one -I don’t know her name, she was this one filmmaker at the Scottish Queer International Film Festival back in 2016. And then I recently went to Hump Fest which is another, just an exclusive porn festival here in Los Angeles. I realized that I could make some really cool films with all this footage I have if I just cut it together and make it weird, use different colors and stuff and inserts. I could totally make something cool and still make it fun, exciting and sexy. Yeah... the whole experimental thing, I feel like it just gives me more to work with, especially when I don't have a lot of... I don't have a big crew, I don’t have a lot of time always to go and find a nice spot, and it’s fine, I have footage and can continue to edit film.

Julia: The other thing I wanted to ask you about is: a lot of porn is really focused on genitals mashing, basically, in whatever form that may be. Basically I feel like a lot of porn, even stuff that’s billed as lesbian porn or is “girl on girl,” to use the PornHub hashtag or whatever… it's very created for people who are not participating in it. I feel like you're creating something you are participating in, that you want to see. Do you feel like porn would be more interesting -and this is a leading question by the way -do you feel like porn would be more interesting if more diverse people were creating it?

Izzy: A thousand percent yeah, totally. I think it totally would. Cause like, I don’t know… Gosh, people should make their own stuff. If more people are making their own stuff then we would have different kinds of styles of porn and different aesthetics and stuff. More people of color should be making porn, more queer people should be making porn film, more people with very specific sexualities should be making porn film. Because everyone has many different tastes and many different preferences, not everyone is going to like one type of film, not everybody finds the same thing sexy. And the point of porn film is for it to be sexy, for it to be enjoyable and stuff, and so not everybody's going to find one type of film enjoyable. So I think that yeah, to fix that problem, to resolve that problem, we just need to have more diverse porn film and to have that happen, we just need to have more people, more diverse people, make porn film. Because I'm just making stuff that looks pretty and is fun for me and stuff. But what if somebody else was making other things? Especially with queer film and stuff, queer porn, I don’t know, everybody’s genitals look different and stuff. The style too, I like the sensuality behind it as well because me personally, I'm demisexual but I'm a specific type of demisexual. I think that’s probably why I just don't get on with watching genitals going at it. Yeah, porn film, diversity in porn films it just impacts everything, from whose on camera, to who's making it, even to who's watching

Julia: So anything else you want to add? Influneces anythinglike that?

Izzy: I influence myself. What I want to do, what I want to watch, because I'm not going to make anything that makes me not excited.

Julia: Yeah that sounds like a good rule of thumb.

Izzy: yeah, take a wank break during editing! True story.

Julia: Alright. Well. To our invisible listeners I think that's everything and… It was lovely talking to you.

Izzy: thanks for listening invisible audience y'all were great.

Julia: Thank you so much Izzy!
